• Jan 13, 2023: “Snow forecast said 17 cm with more snow the following day. Arrived at the mountain and it’s pounding rain. Went up and it’s rainy at mid mountain. Been waiting for lifts to open to the alpine for over an hour. Likely be heading back to the city by 11 am, if conditions don’t improve. This is the third time I’ve come to Whistler and been unable to ski due to inclement weather. Sadly, snow conditions have been so unreliable at Whistler over the last several years, it is no longer worth the time and expense.” 0
• Jan 7, 2023: “Lower mountain is rarely skiable and has poor snow. Alpine lifts never open until past 10 if they bother to open at all. Then start closing at 230! Mid mountain thus get horrible lines and runs are dangerously packed. Food is fast food cafeteria and low quality. Good luck finding a place to sit. All the new lifts simply put more people on the mountain but offer no new territory. Lifts break down quite regularly and there is no information on when or if lifts will open obviously patrol and lift ops don’t talk. So many better places to ski!” 1
• Dec 30, 2022: “Ok, well the obvious first observation is that the skiing at Whistler is great. So why the poor rating? Because this is not a village, it is a giant movie set optimised to take as much money from you as fast as possible. The ski pass is literally 2-3 times the cost of the alps, and yet there is no sign of any investment into the slopes. The pistes are largely unmarked, and there are no nice paper piste maps for skiers, but also no app to show you where you are and which lifts are open etc so finding your way around can be a challenge. The chairlifts are slow, and the queues are huge. At this price point the key chairlifts should be 8 seaters and have perspex comfort screens. The owners need to go to any alpine resort and see how a proper express lift works. The mountain restaurants are hard to find and outrageously busy so by the time you have found somewhere to sit, your $8 cup of fries is cold. So overall, skiing was fine, but the experience was ruined by the greedy monopoly that operates the area. If you can, try skiing in Europe.” 2
